Reporting to the Director, Medical Staff Support & Resources, the Manager, Medical Staff Privileging and Governance is responsible and accountable for the overall operational management and services of medical staff governance and the development, implementation, and coordination of strategic initiatives to support all aspects of medical staff governance and related credentialing and privileging processes. In accordance with the Medical Staff Bylaws and Rules, policies and procedures and working collaboratively with the Executive Medical Director, Deputy Chief Medical Officer, IHS Liaison Medical Governance and Research, the Manager is a member of the Medical Affairs Leadership Team responsible for the effective integration of strategic and operational initiatives to support and engage medical staff across Island Health.
With expertise in medical staff governance and engagement, the Manager recognizes the complexities of leading change with a diverse group. This position is intensely complex due to the inherent unique characteristics of medical staff governance and culture. Furthermore, the environment in which medical staff practice adds layers of complexity due to the influence of many external factors such as the role of Doctors of BC, the Joint Clinical Committees, the current political climate, local municipalities, the influence of the Ministry of Health and the Physician Master Agreement. The Manager develops, fosters, and maintains strong collaborative working relationships with and among the Medical and Academic Affairs leadership, Executive Medical Directors, Medical Directors, Department Heads, Senior Island Health leaders, and external stakeholders.
The Manager is responsible for the support and continual enhancement of Island Health's Medical Staff Governance Structure (including Health Authority Medical Advisory Committee, departments, divisions, sections and related committees) as well as the Medical Co-Leadership Structure as part of Island Health's Integrated Health Services (IHS). The manager ensures the governance and privileging processes are effectively aligned to support MAA, including the Recruitment and Enhanced Medical Staff Support programs.
The Manager provides leadership in the development and implementation of assigned strategic projects/programs/tasks. This position is responsible and accountable for the supervision of a team of governance and privileging coordinators. This position is responsible to support the Director and Medical Director and will provide direct supervision to the Medical Staff Governance Team.
Travel may be a requirement of this position. Transportation arrangements must meet the operational requirements of Island Health in accordance with the service assignment and may require the use of a personal vehicle.
A level of education, training, and experience equivalent to a Bachelor's degree in Health Administration, Business, Public Administration, or Health Sciences, and five (5) years recent experience working in a healthcare environment. Experience working with medical staff and medical leaders is a preferred asset.
