Job Description


Reporting to the Financial Controller, the Senior Accountant is recognized as an expert subject matter within the department, with proven ability to influence across and beyond his department. He/She will support business partners by providing accounting and financial guidance, delivering high quality services in an efficient manner, and bringing forth analytical support. He/She will be required to perform a variety of accounting functions independently and contribute to the development of the department strategy. SSENSE is a fast-evolving space, therefore the candidate must be comfortable with ambiguity, be proactive, and be a creative problem-solver with solid financial knowledge.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Operations Support - 50%

  • Monitor monthly expenses and alert business partners and the Finance team of any unusual activities and/or variances
  • Collaborate closely with the other departments to liaise and share information
  • Provide analytical support to dissect business data to identify trends, obstacles, resolutions and insights
  • Review of general ledger activity to ensure appropriate allocation of revenues and expenses, and variance analysis
  • Solves unique and complex problems that have a broad impact on the department
  • Analyze complex financial transactions
  • Carry out other accounting related tasks as needed

Reporting - 30%

  • Perform monthly reconciliations of balance sheet accounts including accrued liabilities, provisions and inter-company accounts
  • Reconcile data between operating, accounting, reporting and other systems
  • Prepare monthly and quarterly consolidated financial statements, and departmental reporting
  • Review accruals, reconciliations and analytical reports
  • Provide support with the month-end closing process
  • Key contributor in audits by providing required supporting documentation and explanations
  • Manage and maintain efficient and accurate filing

Continuous improvement - 20%

  • Implement streamlining work processes and recommend procedures to ensure maximum efficiency and accuracy
  • Anticipate internal and/or external business challenges and recommends improvements
  • Guide the Finance team in the development and optimization of systems and processes
  • Assess internal controls, including risk assessments and reviews of risk areas
  • Participate in creating, drafting and maintaining policies and procedures
  • May lead project teams to achieve milestones and objectives

Qualifications
  • Professional designation (CPA / CA, CGA, CMA)
  • A minimum of 5 years experience in a similar role
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word
  • Familiarity with accounting software (e.g., SAP), an asset
  • Strong English and French written and spoken communication skills
