DISCIPLINE: Biopharmaceutical Production Technology (235)
TYPE OF CONTRACT: Regular full-time contract spread over 2 semesters (available post/poste disponible) for the 2023-2024 academic year leading to possible tenure.
AREA OF EXPERTISE: To teach Biopharmaceutical Production Technology courses to students enrolled in the three year Biopharmaceutical Production Technology Program.
QUALIFICATIONS
BIO PHARMACEUTICAL PRODUCTION TECHNOLOGY (235.CO)
- Bachelor’s or equivalent* degree in Pharmaceutical Sciences
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field of Science may be considered
- Master’s Degree an asset
- Minimum 5 years experience in the pharmaceutical industry, involved in various manufacturing fields
- Thorough knowledge of at least one of the following subject areas:
- Oral solid dosage forms
- Liquid dosage forms
- Sterile manufacturing
- Bioprocesses including fermentation
- Production & packaging techniques ( Pharmaceutical or Cosmetic)
- Quality control and assurance
- Validation
- Clean utilities
- Very familiar with the application of GMP/GLP and the regulated environment of the pharmaceutical industry
- Problem-solving, Troubleshooting and Process-development skills
- Several years related teaching experience at post-secondary level preferred
- Willingness to collaborate within a departmental team to achieve common objectives
- Excellent English communication skills essential
- “Equivalent” establishes a general comparison between two official education systems
In addition to the above, specific qualifications and experience required to teach:
OSD Manufacturing 1 & 2:
- Very familiar with solid dosage form operations and equipment including:
- Blending (V and ribbon)
- Milling (Comil and Fitzmill)
- Wet/dry granulation technologies (high shear and fluid bed)
- Extrusion/spheronization
- Coating of pellets and tablets
- Several years’ experience with tablet manufacturing using a tablet press
- Several years’ experience with capsule filling using automated equipment
Packaging 1 & 2:
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Process Automation will be an asset
- Excellent knowledge of packaging materials (glass, plastic and rubber) and their classifications according to the USP/EU Phr
- Minimum 3-5 years experience with the following packaging machinery:
- Automatic tube feeding for creams and ointments
- Automatic liquid filling for non-parenteral glass vials
- Blistering lines for tablets and capsules
- Capping and cap tightener
- Labeling/printing and machine vision inspection systems
Sterile Manufacturing 1 & 2:
- Minimum 3-5 years industrial supervisory experience with sterile process operations and equipment
- Very familiar with product formulation, bioburden control, and sterilization
- Knowledge of sterilization and high-level disinfection processes
- Detailed knowledge of aseptic techniques
- Familiar with aseptic processing control and evaluation
