Hillel Lodge - Ottawa Jewish Home for the Aged is now hiring for the following position:

RESTORATIVE CARE / PHYSIOTHERAPY ASSISTANT

Position type: Temporary Part-Time (1 day / week)

Under the general direction of the supervising Occupational Therapist or Physiotherapist, you will provide restorative treatment plans to the residents according to the policies and procedures of Hillel Lodge.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Implements individual therapy treatment prescribed by the Occupational Therapist, or Physiotherapist. These activities may include but not be limited to active and passive ROM, and application of hot/cold packs. Facilitation of therapeutic ambulation, cognitive and perceptual stimulation, sensory stimulation, and exercises.
  • Assists nursing staff with transfers, and repositioning of clients as required.
  • Conducts group therapy (exercise, cognitive and sensory stimulation).
  • Assists with transporting residents to exercise groups.
  • Ensures the health and safety of residents, staff, volunteers and visitors by ensuring that safe practices and proper procedures are communicated, followed, and implemented.
  • Identifies residents who would benefit from an OT or PT assessment.
  • Assists residents with walking programs.
  • Attends regular meetings with supervising therapists.
  • Documentation of quarterly reviews.
  • Instruct the resident in the use of his/her assistive devices and support the resident.
  • Assists the staff in carrying out treatment plans for residents to carry over skills such as walking, transfers and self-feeding.
  • Attends Resident Care Conferences and the Multi-Disciplinary Assessment Committee, as needed.
  • Provides written report to Social Work to present at family conferences when unable to attend.
  • Maintain and clean wheelchairs
  • Maintain wheelchair inventory and match residents to wheelchairs based on size and needs
  • Keeps therapeutic service room clean and organized.
  • Keeps storage room clean and organized.
  • Asks appropriate disciplines to reassess the resident as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Physical Therapist Assistant Diploma (PTA) and/or Occupational Therapist Assistant Diploma (OTA).
  • 6 months of work experience in a related occupation
  • Able to work independently, and as part of a team.
  • Able to receive and follow Supervisor’s direction.
  • Relevant work experience in long-term care, healthcare, or hospitality preferred.
  • General computer skills
  • Good command of the English language, (Read, write, speak)
  • Organizational, planning, time management, and multi-tasking skills.
  • Physical requirements: significant time spent standing, walking, bending, reaching, pushing, pulling and lifting weights of 10 lbs or greater.
