Active Lives Canada is a non-profit organization out of Orangeville, ON L9W 1L2. We are professional, supportive, and collaborative.
Our organization is in need of a Evening 3pm to 11pm Respite Support Worker to provide evening crisis respite care to individuals with developmental exceptionalities. This involves high levels of support and supervision in all areas of daily living including education, behaviour management, community involvement, hygiene, and recreation. These supports are provided at our residential respite homes. The ideal candidate is a mature, compassionate individual who enjoys working with neurodiverse persons with varying levels of abilities.
Job Duties include but are not limited to:
- Supervise resident and ensure that they receive exceptional daily care and that their health care and safety are maintained.
- Provides daily living support which includes assistance with personal care tasks, including toileting, basic personal hygiene and grooming, feeding and ambulation.
- Follow through with established behavioural plans and care plans.
- Implement strategies for residents using a preventative and proactive approach focusing on environmental modifications.
- De-escalate and manage difficult situations and conversations.
- Ensure that residents are engaged and involved in meaningful recreational activities.
- Encourage independence and self help skills.
- Foster positive relationships between fellow residents and staff.
- Shopping for food, supplies and necessities for respite home and/or residents.
- Following dietary restrictions and dietician meal plans, meal and snack food preparation for the residents (3 meals a day).
- Maintain a safe environment and home cleanliness, including resident’s bedding and personal laundry, at the respite home.
- Medication administration as directed by agencies, doctors and/or families including MARS sheets and medication storage and following.
- Develop and maintain positive relationships with residents, families, supports and community members.
- Support and assist co-workers with teamwork and sharing of responsibilities.
- Room safety checks and monitoring house security.
- Participation in training and workshops.
- Abide by mandatory reporting procedures.
- Complete documentation such as data sheets, incident reports, body scan sheets and communication reports.
- Adhere to all Health & Safety policies and procedures to ensure participant and staff safety and well being.
- Adhere to all organizational policies and procedures.
Job Requirements:
- Completion of a Developmental Support Worker (DSW), Child & Youth Worker (CYW) Diploma from a recognized Community College or a Personal Support Worker (PSW) certificate from a recognized Community College;
- Previous experience working or volunteering with individuals that have a developmental exceptionalities.
- Work experience in group settings such as day programs, schools, daycares or assisted living homes.
- Must have a clear criminal record check with vulnerable sector screening.
- 2-part TB test / HepB test
- First Aid/C.P.R.
- NVPCI
- Medication/Pharmacology training an asset
- Current and valid Class G Driver's License
- Willingness to drive clients to appointments and recreational/leisure activities in your vehicle is an asset
