Specific Accountabilities:

The Professor will be responsible for providing academic leadership and for developing an effective environment through the design and revision of programs and courses, defining and evaluating learning outcomes, developing appropriate teaching and learning environments, and developing / selecting appropriate learning materials. You will be expected to tutor and counsel students as well as create assessments, rubrics, and evaluate student achievement. Participating in the development and modification of curriculum, participating in various committees, and keeping current in your field through consultation with business and industry representatives are essential components of this position. You will champion the development of customized training and educational programs in collaboration with public and private sector partners. Program promotion and student recruitment are also essential areas of responsibility.

Qualifications:

  • You are credentialed as an Advanced or Primary Care Paramedic from an Equal Canada Accredited program
  • Bachelor’s degree or Masters in a directly related field is preferred
  • You will have successfully completed the Advanced Emergency Medical Care Assistant exam (AEMCA)
  • Current certification with an Ontario Base Hospital
  • Minimum of 5 years current clinical practice experience as a primary care or advanced care paramedic
  • Knowledge and understanding of the obligations set forth in the following: Basic/Advanced Life Support Patient Care Standards; MOHLTC regulations governing the provision of Ambulance Services
  • Experience and understanding of National Occupational Competency Profiles (NOCP) for Paramedic Practitioners in Canada for accredited Paramedic Programs
  • Teaching experience at the post-secondary level
  • Experience with incorporating simulation based learning in the curriculum

Candidates who demonstrate knowledge or competency in the following academic skills and abilities will be given preference: curriculum design; instructional design and delivery; active, collaborative learning techniques; effective assessment and evaluation of learning; appropriate use of technology for teaching and learning; a track record of professional and academic development.

  • The ideal candidate will demonstrate a proven ability to integrate technology into their teaching practice (e.g. alternate delivery through hybrid, online, mobile enhanced learning, and social media) and possess a commitment to lifelong learning, academic scholarship, and professional integrity.
