The Tax Roll Maintenance Clerk is required to register accounts under the tax statutes and programs administered by the Compliance & Enforcement Division; the Tax Roll Maintenance Clerk is also responsible for account maintenance, with a strong focus on data integrity. The Tax Roll Maintenance Clerk is required to provide customer service to both internal and external clients (including business owners and their representatives) as required. Qualifications:
Essential:

  • Completion of a Business Administration and/or Accounting Diploma or Certificate. A combination of related education, training and experience may be considered.
  • Experience providing customer service to the public by phone, email and in person in a professional manner
  • Experience with interpreting and applying legislation, regulations, policies and/or procedures.
  • Proficient in a computerized environment including a strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and an ability to learn custom software programs
  • Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to prioritize workloads and effectively manage deadlines
  • Ability to work independently as well as in a multi-tasked team environment
  • Strong verbal communication skills
  • Strong written communication skills

Duties:

  • Review, verify, validate and register businesses under the tax statutes and programs administered by the Taxation Division, ensuring that each business is appropriately registered; applications are received by paper and electronically.
  • Process and complete routine amalgamations, ensuring that businesses are registered correctly by gathering, reviewing, verifying, and confirming information provided by successor and predecessor companies, Canada Revenue Agency, and Manitoba Companies Office.
  • Generate and print applicable tax returns to initiate tax reports and remittances, as well as replacing those lost or not received by registrants.
  • Assist internal and external clients by explaining the registration application process, including inquiries on specific accounts by providing basic interpretations of the tax statutes and policies administered by the Division.
  • Maintain the data integrity of electronic accounts under the tax statutes and programs administered by the Division
  • Update and correct filing frequencies of accounts already registered with the Division to ensure that businesses are filing in a manner required by legislation.
  • Log and track incoming applications in order to track work flows, ensure service standards are being met, and to be able to respond to applicants with regard to wait times.
  • Experienced Tax Roll Maintenance Clerks may be required to provide training and guidance to newer staff.
