Job Description

We currently have a Temporary Part-time (0.75 FTE, until approx. August 2024) opportunity for a Occupational Therapist in the B4 NVU department at our Bayview campus.

Hours of work:


Weekdays & Weekends: Days; 8 hrs; As per schedule, Statutory Holidays Required.


Summary of Duties:

Complete assessments and treatment according to the Canadian Stroke Strategy Best Practice recommendations, with the team goals of improving Sunnybrook Health Science Centre’s patient outcomes and providing an excellent patient experience. Will be expected to travel to other areas of the hospital outside of the stroke unit.

  • Responsible for completing Alpha-FIM assessments by Day Three of stroke event, in collaboration with the team.
  • Contribute to the assessment and interventions of non-medical management of delirium, early mobility, falls-risk assessments, ADL/IADLs, orientation and insight-building education.
  • Collaborate with patients, families and team members to improve patient functioning and facilitate effective patient discharges.
  • Act as an occupational therapy expert resource for staff, students, and other healthcare providers.
  • Maintain and upgrade knowledge and skills through continuing education and professional development.
  • Seek opportunities for involvement in practice-based research and engage in knowledge translation through evidence-based practice.
  • Participate in profession-specific and inter-professional activities in support of the Sunnybrook Occupational Therapy service and the Department of Occupational Science & Occupational Therapy at the University of Toronto.
  • Practice in accordance with COTO standards.

Qualifications/Skills

  • Registration with the College of Occupational Therapists of Ontario require
  • Membership in CAOT and/or OSOT required
  • Neurorehabilitation experience required;
  • 2 years Occupational Therapy experience in stroke preferred
  • Cognitive assessment experience required
  • Current training in Alpha-FIM and FIM outcome measures preferred
  • Knowledge of and/or demonstrated competence in Stroke Best Practice recommended assessment and treatment modalities (for Upper extremity, cognitive and perceptual function, ADLs and IADLs including driving) preferred
  • Commitment to excellence and leadership in Stroke care
  • Strong commitment to inter-professional collaboration, to facilitate an excellent patient care experience
  • Commitment to clinical excellence and use of Best Practices
  • Demonstrated commitment to Person-Centred Care approach and principles
  • Ability to demonstrate reflective practice
