Position Summary

The Occupational Health & Safety Assistant is a member of the Employee Services department responsible for supporting the Occupational Health & Safety. The OHS Assistant will be responsible for the administration and clerical functions primarily related to WCB claims, employee onboarding related to safety, inspections, near-miss reporting, and incident reporting.

Please note: This is a 4-month Co-op term from May 2023 - August 2023

Responsibilities

Responsibilities of this role include, but are not limited to:

  • Support OHS team with data validation and maintenance of e-learning completion for Seasonal employees
  • Prepare and submit WCB claims on behalf of the employer and support employees with filing their own claims. Track the number and status of each claim.
  • File management related to near-misses, incident reporting, and inspections.
  • Coordinate with People Leaders to ensure employees have the required training for their position.
  • Promote a culture of safety across the organization with a particular focus on young worker safety
  • Produce post-Stampede reports that summarizes OHS activities.
  • Perform data entry, list management, and budget tracking for a variety of projects
  • Perform various administrative duties and clerical functions when providing reception coverage
  • Support special projects and program initiatives as assigned

Qualifications and Education Requirements

  • The ideal candidate will be proactive, optimistic and have worked in a dynamic environment where they have experience delivering on multiple priorities and will hold the following qualifications:
  • Co-op eligible student in Business, Human Resources, Safety, or Administration
  • Previous experience working in professional office environment considered an asset
  • Previous experience working within human resource information systems, learning management systems, and safety reporting software
  • Excellent organizational skills and high attention to detail, with an ability to think proactively and prioritize work
  • Intermediate level skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook are essential.
  • Experience working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment
