We offer several designated marshalling points within BC including Nanaimo, Vancouver, Kelowna, Kamloops, Williams Lake, Prince George, Smithers, and Calgary, AB.

The Open Pit Mining Engineer will provide aligned, consistent, high-quality short term mine plans required to support surface production at the Red Chris Mine.

Accountabilities:

  • Safety - Demonstrate a personal commitment and leadership in providing a safe working environment by:
    • Promoting and maintaining a culture of safe production by compliance with company safety systems, policies, procedures, environmental requirements, internal team safety requirements and other relevant targets.
    • Actively modelling and pursuing visible felt safety leadership, and our culture-based safety program;
  • Create weekly mine plans that align with the 3 Month Rolling Plan, Quarterly forecasts, and annual budget.
  • Create 3 Month Rolling Plans, which align with the quarterly mid‐range plans and budget, monthly;
  • Spend time in the field with production supervisors and technical services team developing mining strategies and evaluating plan performance;
  • Provide guidance and support to operations to ensure compliance and efficient mining;
  • Track and present weekly and monthly mine performance data;
  • Engage in continuous improvement projects to move the department towards industry leading practice;
  • Assist with design functions to support safe, cost-effective open-pit production;
  • Project works and management, which may include cross-department consultation, to improve open-pit operations;
  • Assist in the establishment and continued compliance with standards for safe mine development and production. Accountable and responsible for developing, implementing and maintaining procedures, Management of Change (MOC) processes and databases for all mine planning and scheduling functions.
  • Accountable for change management, risk assessments and approvals completed as required
  • Accountable and responsible for quickly resolving conflicting stakeholder objectives

Qualifications & Experience:

Essential

  • A demonstrated commitment to safety.
  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Mine Engineering, or diploma from an accredited University, technical school or college is required.
  • Able to register with EGBC as an Engineer-in-Training or Professional Engineer
  • Experience with mine planning and scheduling software – MineSight (Atlas), Deswik, Vulcan, XPAC, etc.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience as a Drill and Blast Engineer or Short-Range Planner.

Desirable

  • Professional Engineering designation in BC (or ability to obtain within 6 months)
  • Engineering experience in polymetallic open pit mining
  • Experience as a Mine Operations Supervisor
  • Previous experience working at a Fly-In / Fly-Out operation
