The wage currently displayed is reflective of the wage top up provided by the Government of BC., with the wage based on number of total hours worked as an LPN.

Dover House, a family owned and operated 24 bed Licensed Senior Care Home located in Nanaimo BC, is seeking a Licensed Practical Nurses (LPN) for Casual positions for all shifts to be valued members of the team. We are looking for caring and compassionate nurses to be part of our care team who wants to use the skills and abilities you worked so hard for, as well as who truly understand the meaning of Person Centered Care. This position offers shift differential on nights and weekends.

Job Summary:

Under the direction of the Registered Nurse Manager and performing in a Team Leader Role, you will be responsible for performing nursing and personal care duties within the scope of practice according to the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM) guidelines. You will participate in the implementation of Care Plans, collaborate with the care team, physicians, residents, and families, and be responsible for daily record keeping (such as progress noting, and medication administration recording). The position allows for great autonomy, as well as the ability to truly understand and build therapeutic relationships with those you care for. You would be a valued member of our multidisciplinary team who would be able to work: both independently and as a team with Care Aids, advocating and improving the quality of life for those we care for. Qualifications:

  • Current membership in good standing with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM).
  • Valid CPR certificate.
  • Must be: free from communicable diseases (with an updated immunizations record), physically able to perform repetitive tasks, lift, squat, bend, and stand as required to perform the duties of the position - good body mechanics are required.
  • Possess maturity with good physical and mental health, empathy, patience and tact.
  • Must be able to lead and supervise care personnel.
  • Multi-tasker and excellent organizational, problem solving, and communication skills.
  • Able to work well with others and be a team player, as well as able to work independently.
  • Compassionate and caring nature with an excellent understanding of persons centered care.
  • Provide care to residents in accordance to Dover House's philosophy, goals and objectives.
  • Assist residents to meet physical, emotional, and psychological needs to facilitate independence
  • Excellent understanding of the English language, in both written and verbal skills.
  • Able to take initiative and be proactive with care for the seniors.
  • Excellent communicator with a solid foundation of: various disease processes, medications, and medical challenges.
  • Punctual, reliable, loyal, and dedicated

Salary: Up to $37.00 per hour

Dover House is following all mandated policies and recommendations put forth from both the Medical Health Officer (MHO), and Island Health for Long Term Care (LTC). A COVID-19 Coach is in place, as well as all PPE requirements are met.
