JUSTB4 Manager/Early Childhood Educator Kimberley, BC
School District No. 6 is excited to be participating in the JUSTB4 pilot project for the 2023-24 school year. JUSTB4 is a Ministry of Education and Child Care pilot project and celebrates JUST BEING 4 years old. This program is not a Kindergarten readiness program, it is meant to provide an early childhood experience for children and their families who are not already registered in preschool and/or daycare programs.
School District No. 6 (Rocky Mountain) is now accepting applications for the role of temporary, part-time (20 hr/wk) JUSTB4 Manager/Early Childhood Educator in Kimberley, BC. This leadership role will be from September 5, 2023 to June 30, 2024. Wage: $29.00/hour plus BC Government and CBT top-up.
School District No. 6 (Rocky Mountain) is located on the traditional, unceded and shared territory of the Ktunaxa and Secwépemc peoples and is the chosen home for many Métis and other Indigenous people. Located in the beautiful Columbia Valley of the East Kootenay, Rocky Mountain serves 3443 students in 18 schools spread over 270 kilometers. We invite applications from candidates who hold a valid Early Childhood Educator Certificate and license with the ECE Registry in BC. The Early Childhood Educator reports to the Director of Instruction of Early Learning and Child Care and works collaboratively with the district early learning team. The JUSTB4 ECE/Manager must have experience creating quality preschool programming and program delivery in a licensed setting including supervising staff. This position requires knowledge of Child Care Licensing Regulations, CCOF, ACCB, CCFRI, and WE as well as experience with monthly invoicing and fee collection.
The ideal candidate will:
Be responsible for adhering to JUSTB4 policies and procedures and will maintain compliance with the BC Licensing Child Care Regulations.
Budget, plan and record finance and administration records for the JUSTB4 program as per JUSTB4 and SD6 finance policies.
Develop and maintain student records and observations and ensure the confidentiality of student information in accordance with FIPPA.
Supervise and support staff including Early Childhood Educator Assistants and Responsible Adults.
Create a safe, caring environment that provides equal opportunity for all children, staff and families with regard to their religious persuasion, racial origins, gender, abilities, cultural and linguistic backgrounds.
Maintain, prepare, and create safe learning environments within the JUSTB4 classroom, outdoor space(s) and program equipment according to JUSTB4 policies and procedures and assessment of risk.
Use the BC Early Learning Framework to guide social emotional well-being, outdoor learning, play-based learning and embed the First Peoples Principles of Learning in all experiences.
Have a strong understanding of child development that promotes positive guidelines and joyful early learning experiences.
Promote clear communication with families and the District’s Early Learning team.
Plan and coordinate opportunity for families to connect with community programs and services including schools.
Jointly plan professional development with supervisor in order to maintain the annual hours required to maintain their ECE License with the ECE Registry in BC.
The successful candidate will have:
At minimum, an Early Childhood Education Certificate and valid license with the ECE Registry in BC.
Valid Emergency Child Care First Aid and CPR.
At minimum, 3-5 years of experience leading and planning learning for preschool children in a licensed setting.
At minimum, 1-3 years of experience managing a licensed early learning program.
Exemplary and proven interpersonal and communication skills.
Strong organizational and planning skills and ability to set priorities.
Flexibility in working as part of a team and proven ability to support staff, children, and families.
Knowledge of community resources available for families with preschool children.
A current Food Safe Certificate would be an asset.
