Junior Flower Buyer
Mississauga, Ontario

Reporting to the Flower Purchasing Manager, the Junior Flower Buyer is responsible for managing flower inventories within assigned product categories to allow for forecasted sales level achievement of gross profit margin levels.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for placing orders based on sales, required inventory, historical data, seasonal requirements, and scheduled promotions
  • Monitor inventory levels of assigned product categories and source product necessary to maintain appropriate inventory levels to support forecasted sales, including use of computer inventory values and daily monitoring of product in the cooler
  • Monitor and manage gross profit margins of assigned product categories to meet gross profit margin targets, including the daily review of product management report for sales trends and for current margin levels
  • With Quality Assurance, ensure quality level of product is maintained to Hofland standards, including sourcing new vendors as required and proactively looking for ways to increase sales
  • Coordinate transportation of product from South America to Miami and further pick up of product by distribution channels
  • Negotiate with vendors for fair pricing for all products to ensure Hofland remains competitive in the marketplace and set pricing that is competitive and that will enable targeted margins and sales volumes to be met
  • Forward daily shipping information to Flower Processing Department to coordinate staffing requirements to receive incoming product
  • Review freight bills to ensure accuracy and approve all supplier invoices/credits
  • Request quarterly freight reports (from S.A. freight forwarders) to ensure average freight costs are maintained
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Industry knowledge/experience of flowers and greens in a retail/wholesale environment
  • 2-3 years flower/greens purchasing experience
  • Enrolment/Graduate of a Purchasing Program would be an asset
  • Experience in negotiating & inventory control
  • Computer literate, proficient with MS office (Word, Outlook) and strong Excel skills
  • Capable of learning a customized database
  • Experience with Elite and/or ERP/Database Management Software
  • Strong computational/math skills
  • Excellent English skills; written and oral
  • Superior interpersonal and communication skills
  • Detailed oriented with outstanding time management/organizational skills
