The Opportunity
Reporting to the Director, Airport Planning & Infrastructure, the Engineering Student will work closely with WAA’s Infrastructure department in planning, design and construction management of airport infrastructure and related tenant development projects. This position will work on a variety of civil construction projects including supporting with field duties, site inspections, project filing and survey support work.
Responsibilities include:
- Assist with site inspections, construction site layout, quantity measurements, and a variety of related administrative duties;
- Perform field survey, inspection, and design tasks, under direction of project manager;
- Monitor and record construction progress, and assist in quality assurance inspections;
- Collect and process survey data with total station and GPS to provide design grade calculations, record in-progress construction work, and complete survey verification of existing airport infrastructure; and
- Provide preliminary design and drafting of civil infrastructure in AutoCAD Civil 3D.
Selection Criteria include:
- Minimum 1st year Civil Engineering or Civil Engineering Technology Student (Civil, Municipal or Geomatics);
- Strong computer skills, including proficiency in Windows 10 and Office 365 applications;
- Ability to work in a team environment, as well as individually;
- Proven multi-tasking and organizational skills;
- Class 5 driver’s license;
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal;
- Experience with AutoCAD and surveying software would be considered an asset; and
- Experience with total station surveying and GPS would be considered an asset.

Condition of employment is the ability to obtain and maintain an Airport Restricted Area Identification Card.
