Job Description

Ainley Group is currently seeking an Engineering Intern (EIT) to join our Municipal Infrastructure group in our Barrie Office. As the successful candidate, you will use your knowledge, skills, and abilities to assist in planning, designing, and administering municipal infrastructure renewal, rehabilitation, and replacement projects.

This role will provide you with the opportunity to gain valuable experience working on rewarding projects within a dynamic team setting. Not only will you be implementing innovative and effective concepts and designs, you will also be working and interfacing with other professionals and clients.

Responsibilities and Duties:

Working under the guidance of project managers, senior engineers, and technologists, you will:

  • Complete and/or coordinate the inspection of municipal infrastructure projects, including roads, water, and sewer infrastructure, including coordination with other inspectors and subconsultants as well as liaison with clients, contractors, and the public;
  • Assist with contract administration duties for various municipal infrastructure projects;
  • Assist with the preparation of preliminary and detailed designs, including documents and reports in support of municipal infrastructure projects;
  • Assist with the review and/or preparation of contract drawings, specifications, tender documents, construction cost estimates, and applications for approval from various review agencies;
  • Assist with the peer review of land development projects on behalf of municipal clients both during the design and construction phases; and
  • Provide general assistance as required.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering;
  • Previous engineering work experience (including co-op or internship programs) within Ontario would be an asset;
  • Strong computer skills, including spreadsheet and word processing programs as well as knowledge of industry specific software such as AutoCAD, Civil 3D, GIS, etc. are required;
  • Independent, organized and motivated team player with excellent oral and written (English) communication and interpersonal skills;
  • Proactive mindset with excellent problem solving and decision-making skills;
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to develop effective and trustworthy relationships both with clients and within the organization; and
  • Valid Ontario driver’s license and reliable vehicle are required for this position.
