GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
The Municipal Engineer will collaborate on a variety of municipal infrastructure improvement projects primarily relating to water distribution, sanitary and storm sewer systems. Other areas of responsibility include transportation engineering drainage and site grading. The work includes reviewing proposed developments and providing technical services related to asset management. Incumbent will participate through all stages of the projects and manage their deliverables from inception to construction completion. Primary responsibilities of this position include:
Program Development: Assists the Manager/Senior Municipal Engineer service delivery through direct involvement in daily operations and overall administration. Supports the overall program services by conducting research, collecting information and providing solutions for drainage and other water/wastewater related issues. Assists with the development and implementation of departmental strategies, tools, plans, budgets, and future needs based on best practices for continuous improvement. Ensures continuity of water system related services to citizens by providing appropriate and efficient solutions.
Departmental Support: Provides ongoing technical support to the other branches of Engineering for water/wastewater related projects. This advice will ensure consistent, innovative, and legislatively compliant administrative guidelines, reports, procedures, and precedents. Takes an active role in the development and monitoring of the business plan for the department. Review, analyse and make recommendations on construction related expenditures against project budgets to ensure cost effectiveness.
Project Management: Oversees the preparation of preliminary design and contracts administration of infrastructure projects. Monitors site grading design. Participates the planning and execution of public engagement activities. Provides information to members of the public regarding drainage and water related issues. Works with consultants to successfully complete projects on schedule and within budget. Prepares technical reports, project specifications, engineering drawings and completes design and drawing reviews. Responds to inquiries from consultants, developers, and the public.
