Later & Mavrck

In March 2022, Later was acquired by Boston-based influencer marketing platform Mavrck. The Mavrck platform allows large enterprise brands to automate their influencer marketing strategy for smoother partnerships and performance on campaigns. Together, we’re helping connect creators & marketers to grow their social followings and businesses on social media.

What you’ll be doing

Reporting directly into the CTO, you will be a strategic leader of engineering, one who brings strong, innovative and informed decisions in enhancing our product and technology vision.

The Director, Engineering (mat leave contract) is the leader of the Engineering team who will have strong leadership skills, is passionate about culture, has an innate collaborative style, sharp business acumen, and strong technology fundamentals. You will be responsible for growing and developing the engineering team, leading by example with your inclusive and collaborative approach to getting work done.

We are looking for a maternity leave contractor to work with our team till February 2024.

Responsibilites

  • Partner with the CTO and other senior executives to determine how engineering can contribute to the achievement of the company’s strategic plans, vision and goals
  • Partner with leadership in Product Management and Product Design to envision, develop, and execute on our product roadmap
  • Manage, build and motivate Later engineering team
  • Work closely with our Product Leadership team to set the technical direction for your portfolio
  • Create an engineering culture that strikes the right balance between technical quality and the speed necessary for our stage
  • Run a best-in-class engineering process to maximize work quality and team productivity
  • Apply experience and insight to find innovative solutions to complex business opportunities
  • Inspire and motivate the engineering team by connecting business goals to their work
  • Provide coaching, mentorship, and technical guidance to the team with a keen eye to develop and promote from within
  • Support and guide teams to solve technical problems, rolling up your sleeves when needed
  • Contribute to and build a deep understanding of the code base and the need of our customers
  • Maintain and foster a collaborative environment that highlights team prioritization, removing roadblocks, and sharing unique and creative solutions

  • 8+ years experience in understanding all aspects of software engineering, including coding, maintenance, architecture and design
  • 5+ years experience of building or supporting the delivery of software-as-a-service (SaaS) and successfully executing in the SaaS environment
  • 5+ years as a software developer;
  • A background in hands-on software engineering, specifically with building web/mobile applications at scale;
  • A diverse base of knowledge that allows you to help your team solve complex technical problems;
  • A demonstrated ability to hire the best and brightest engineers in a competitive job market—and to coach, develop, and retain engineering talent;
  • A portfolio of successful projects (as well as a collection of lessons A philosophy on what makes for great software engineer teams;
  • A demonstrated success in people leadership in software engineering; learned from failed projects).
  • Experience collaborating with other departments including Product Management, Sales, etc.
  • A clear communicator, able to articulate both momentum on initiatives as well as key risks and challenges
  • Expertise with best in class software development processes, including AGILE, scrum and Waterfall, across the entire SDLC (DevOps, Automated Testing, Requirements Management, etc)
  • Critical thinker with demonstrated capabilities to quickly resolve complex challenges
