What responsibilities will you have in this role?
- Supervises the organization and inventory of equipment (i.e., pots, blenders, disposables, etc.) in the dedicated Culinary Equipment room.
- Coordinates equipment from inventory for ad hoc requests such as specific mixing bowls, cooking trays, etc. (e.g., as a result of shorted or damaged items in another lab), provides tracking and documentation for these exceptions.
- Ensures that equipment is operating as expected.
- Liaises with facilities maintenance, external cleaning contractors, specialized vendors to ensure smooth and continuity of operation of CHCA labs and equipment through maintenance and cleaning (i.e., Ecolab, TBM, Enviroarie, Dpec, Hobart, etc.).
- Communicates building repair needs to Facilities and takes appropriate follows-up actions to maintain capacity of equipment.
- Maintains lab inspection report (plumbing, gas, electrical, refrigeration, Health & Safety) and advises on follow up status.
- Arranges and provides initial sign off to work order for outside contractor repairs to lab related equipment (assigns and arranges services not provided by Facilities).
- Tracking and reconciliation of all work orders and contractor repair authorizations. Provides the documentation bundles to Admin for final review/sign off.
- Researches and evaluates potential contractors that have the capability to deal with the specialized needs of CHCA.
- Assesses needs and prepares replacement small ware equipment listing and pursues quotation process on as needed basis.
- Sources and acquires quotes for new small ware equipment enquiries following accounting and budget guidelines and procurement policies.
- Other related duties as assigned.
What qualifications do you need for this role?
- Three-year diploma or degree from a recognized post-secondary institution in Culinary Arts/Management and Red Seal Chef Certification is required.
- Additional requirements: First Aid, Smart Serve, Food Handler Certificate, and Lift Tow.
- Minimum of five years’ experience in a Steward or Chef capacity in a 4+ star hotel/restaurant or four years as a Culinary Technician is required. Culinary management/executive chef experience.
- Knowledge of equipment specification/design and strong equipment background as it relates to Culinary.
- Awareness of industry trends in equipment as it relates to culinary training.
- Exceptional customer service experience and experience resolving equipment problems quickly and efficiently.
- Innovative in providing creative solutions.
- Excellent negotiation, time management, coordination, and organizational skills; ability to establish priorities and make decisions within prescribed boundaries.
- Ability to lift over 20 kg or 44 lbs (i.e., marble slabs, blenders, meat slicer, vac pac machine, floor mixer, etc.).
- Demonstrated commitment in delivering excellent service to others as this is key in supporting the success of our students and our College.
- Strong communication, interpersonal, teamwork and people skills.
- Flexibility in adapting to change and in participating in consultative decision-making processes.
Hours of Work: Monday to Friday 6:00 am – 2:00 pm (Fully Onsite).
Interview process may consist of a practical skills component.
