JOB TITLE: Native Education Counsellor
LOCATION: Brantford, ON

The Board spans a geographic area encompassing the City of Brantford and the Counties of Brant, Haldimand and Norfolk. The head office is located in Brantford.
Major Duties and Responsibilities:
- establishing positive relations with school personnel and parents of Six Nations students attending schools for the purpose of enhancing student success rates
- providing academic and social counselling for students from the Six Nations community
- providing counselling for students from the Six Nations community who have been referred for issues regarding attendance and lack of student success
- participating in all Individual Placement and Review Committee meetings conducted for students affected by the education services agreement
- acting as a resource person and assisting with initiatives of the Six Nations Advisory Committee
- establishing and maintaining up to date information regarding student entrance, transition from Six Nations schools, retention and success rate in secondary education
- being responsible for increasing the awareness and sensitivity of school personnel with respect to students attending school
- travel within the Board’s geographical region will be required
- other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications:
Applicants must be a person of Haudenosaunee ancestry who is knowledgeable and demonstrates a positive working relationship with the Six Nations Community
and, a minimum of a Bachelors’ degree in Social Work or Social Studies or an Ontario Teacher’s Certificate with courses in guidance and counselling
OR five (5) years successful experience in counselling or guidance plus a minimum of a community college diploma in a related discipline with demonstrated evidence of annual progression toward Category One qualification.
Hours of Work
1.0 FTE, 35 hours per week.
