Elk Island Public Schools is recruiting a part-time (0.5 FTE) Counsellor at Lamont Elementary.

Commencing August 29, 2023

Open to internal and external applicants, priority will be given to EIPS teachers who hold a continuous contract and meet the minimum requirements of the position

Lamont Elementary serves approximately 290 students in kindergarten to Grade 6, with 15 teaching staff and 16 support staff. The school is located in Lamont, AB, approximately 60 kilometres northeast of Sherwood Park, AB.

Lamont Elementary is located in a community that strongly supports and appreciates the value of education. The school offers an outstanding academic program, including a range of opportunities for students to participate in fine arts programming. Opportunities also includes a variety of extracurricular activities including a strong intramural program, sports teams and numerous clubs. The school’s mission is to provide the best possible quality instruction to students, and to support the values of the community it serves. Lamont Elementary is also a designated Play And Learn at School (PALS) pre-kindergarten site within the Division.

A master's degree in counselling and registered or provisional psychologist status is preferred. Consideration will be given to applicants presently working on a master's in this area. A minimum of five years of teaching experience, education psychology or a related discipline with a focus in counselling, and Violent Threat Risk Assessment Training (VTRA) would be considered an asset.

Qualifications:
Bachelor of Education degree

Valid Alberta Teaching Certificate

Effective organization and classroom management skills

Ability to create a classroom environment where students feel safe, supported, and challenged

Excellent verbal and written skills

Experience or familiarity analyzing data and using data to inform decisions and/or instruction

Strong collaboration and teamwork skills

Growth mindset and ability to use feedback to improve practice

Relentless drive to set and achieve personal and professional goals

Nonviolent Crisis Intervention training
