Construction Project Coordinator - Summer Student - 16 Week Placement

Reporting to the Sr. Project Coordinator, the Student Construction Project Coordinator supports the full lifecycle of projects from design and planning, pre-construction, construction, to project close-out.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Duties

  • Maintain effective communication and ensure all stakeholders are informed and up to date.
  • Assist project team to keep moving the project forward through strong written and verbal communication, document control and awareness of critical timelines.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date shop drawings, track the status of RFI’s, obtain quotations for notices of change, update and assemble as-built documents.
  • Conduct quality control activities, inspection programs and periodic updating of construction progress and safety records.
  • Work alongside and regularly communicate with owners, architects, trade contractors and engineers to identify, develop, implement, and support cost-effective project delivery.
  • Work on project sites to assist project team and meeting daily and weekly construction targets.

HARD SKILLS REQUIRED

  • Completed 2 years of an Engineering degree or 1 year of Construction Management from an accredited college or university.
  • Understand construction and project management processes and project delivery sequences.
  • Very comfortable with Microsoft Office – Word, Excel, Outlook and power Point.
  • Basic knowledge with Microsoft Project scheduling software.
  • A safety first mentality, understanding the importance of safety both at the office and on project sites.
  • Comfortable in working in varying weather conditions.
  • Valid driver’s license.

SOFT SKILLS REQUIRED

Communication: It is critical you can provide useful, timely information to all parties associated with the project.

Attention to Detail: An eye for detail and a desire to strive for perfection.

Problem solver: It is not uncommon for things to go wrong on construction projects. Proactive contingency plans to mitigate potential problems are imperative. Otherwise, a reactionary approach will only cause cost overruns, and delays.

Interpersonal skills: Given the amount of people interaction daily, cultivating and manage relationships is key. A people first approach can significantly improve labour productivity.

Resourceful: The ability to find quick and clever ways to overcome obstacles.Utilizing software to keep track of materials, people and equipment will free up time to focus on uniquely human tasks.

Professionalism: To set the proper tone onsite, superintendents must display exemplary professionalism in how they treat and interact with others. Professional consultants will have a much easier time heeding demands from superintendents they have confidence in.

Personal Effectiveness: Proactive, thick skin, and initiative.

Organized: Ability to get you work done timely and accurately allowing you to achieve important deadlines and goals. A sense of urgency to meet deadlines.

Critical Thinker: Objectively analyses a problem to form a conclusion.

Team Player: Strong ability to work collaboratively in a team setting with clients, suppliers, trade contractor, project team and management to complete projects on time and on budget.
