Job Summary

The Accountant ensures proper entries of accounts receivable, accounts payable and payroll ensuring financial processes are applied and respected. The Accountant responds to staff and divisional enquiries as required and works with the Senior Accounting team as the point of contact for invoicing, payment, and collection matters. This position is in our construction accounting team.

Key Responsibilities:

Accounts Payable

  • Maintain a record of all contracts.
  • Process invoices, expense claims and other payables through approved financial processes.
  • Issue payments to suppliers.
  • Manage, file and process remittances (HST, EHT, T4A, etc.).
  • Ensures component payments are prepared and paid on a timely basis.
  • Post and reconcile expenses to AP subledger and GL; and,
  • Conduct period-end procedures (e.g., prepaid, depreciation).

Accounts Receivable

  • In charge of collection through processing of credit card payments and deposit cheques at the bank; Follow-up with delinquent accounts.
  • Track outstanding cheques and payment.
  • Post and reconcile revenue sub-ledger with general ledger.
  • Assist Divisions in their collection process; and,
  • Conduct period-end procedures (e.g., deferral adjustments, bad debt).

Banking

  • Prepare the monthly bank reconciliation for various bank accounts; and
  • Goes to the bank to process deposits or other in person transactions.

Financial Controls

  • Assist in ongoing improvement/development of financial systems, controls, and procedures.

General

  • Act as main contact for day-to-day financial questions from operations; and
  • Other duties as assigned by the Senior Accounting Team.

Qualifications:

  • Past work experience in accounting or a related position
  • Understanding of accounting rules.
  • Post-Secondary Degree or Diploma in a related field.
  • Advanced computer skills: MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Outlook.
  • Ability to multi-task and pay close attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to manage difficult clients.
  • Bilingual in English and French is an asset.
  • Experience with the Yardi accounting suite highly valued
  • Experience in construction industry highly valued
  • Experience with other accounting systems also valued.

Salary: $75,000.00-$85,000.00 per year
